Spinning and tumbling of long fibers in isotropic turbulence

چکیده
We simultaneously measure both spinning and tumbling components of rotation for long near-neutrally buoyant fibers in homogeneous isotropic turbulence. The lengths diameters the measured extend to several orders Kolmogorov length surrounding turbulent flow. Our measurements show that variance rate follows a -4/3 power law scaling with fiber diameter ($d$) is always larger than rate. This behavior surprisingly resembles observed previously sub-Kolmogorov fibers. general picture emerges from this study preferentially align vortex filaments can be as integral compute Lagrangian time scale distribution supports outlook. also allow us quantify importance Coriolis term on rotational dynamics flows.
